La Rioja Alta Gran Reserva 890, Jg. 1995

Der La Rioja Alta Gran Reserva 890 referenziert auf das Gründungsdatum von La Rioja Alta im Jahre 1890. Verglichen mit modernen Weinen ist das 14-jährige Herstellungsritual dieses Weins ungeheuer aufwendig:

- 8 Jahre im 225 L Barrique
- 6 Jahre in der Flasche

Rebsorten: 85 % Tempranillo, 15 % Graciano und Mazuelo

Produktionsmenge: ca. 12.000 Flaschen

Vinifikation: Nach der Fermentation in Stahltanks reift der Wein 9 Monate in großen Stahlfässern. Im Juli 1995 wurde er in Barriques aus amerikanischer Eiche umgelagert. Alle 6 Monate wurde ein Abstich, von Hand im Schein einer Kerze durchgeführt. Abgefüllt wurde im Juli 2002.

Verkostungsnotiz:
Intensives, gedecktes Rot in der Glasmitte. Zum Glasrand hin hellere Töne. Das Aroma ist kräftig, komplex mit feinen Nuancen von Zimt, Vanille und reifen Früchten. Im Mund samtig, seidig und weich, perfekt komponiert und ausgewogen. Der Abgang ist anhaltend und gibt klare und angenehme Aromen frei.

The 1995 Gran Reserva 890 has a slightly deeper color than the 904. It offers a similar alluring fragrance but more grip, richness, and intensity. The wine is very long with a 60+ second finish, the personification of classic Rioja at its best. Drink it now through 2020. La Rioja Alta continues to be one of the benchmarks for traditionally produced Rioja. What the wines may lack in power, they make up for in finesse and complexity. The winery has just released its first “modern-styled” Rioja, called Marques de Haro, and it is a success.

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Sep 12 - Josh Raynolds - La Rioja Alta Gran Reserva 890, Jg. 1995 - 94/100Bright red with an amber rim.  A heady, wildly complex bouquet evokes red fruit preserves, potpourri, vanilla, cigar box and pipe tobacco, with slow-building vanilla and woodsmoke qualities.  Sappy and seamless on the palate, showing sweet red berry, cherry and rose pastille flavors and a touch of mocha.  Clings with outstanding tenacity on the finish, which shows sexy floral and spice notes and no rough edges.
