Wine Advocate # 241 - 28th Feb 2019 - Luis Gutiérrez - 2010 Pazo de Señorans • Albariño Selección de Añada - 94/100 - $65 - 2019 - 2030
I was really looking forward to tasting the 2010 Albariño Selección de Añada from Pazo de Señorans, one of the pioneers to age Albariño and release it a few years after the harvest. From a very balanced vintage that's considered one of the best in recent times, this 2010 matured for at least 30 months with the lees (which were periodically stirred) in stainless steel and never went through malolactic. It has a youthful, light color and a complex, expressive nose with notes of peach and yellow plums intermixed with citrus hints that provide freshness and a grassy, floral touch, serious and not at all tropical. The palate is very defined, symmetric, chiseled, pure and clean, with focused flavors and very good length. This has to be the finest vintage to date for this cuvée first produced in 1995. It's very pleasant and drinkable right now, but it has all the components for long life in bottle. If you still think Albariño has to be drunk before the next harvest arrives in the market, try this wine. It will make you change your mind. 15,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in January 2018.
