The Wine Advocate, # 218 - 30th Apr 2015 - Luis Gutiérrez - 2013 Benjamín Romeo • Que Bonito Cacareaba - 94/100 - 2015-2025 - $77
The top of the range in whites is the unusually called 2013 Que Bonito Cacareaba, a powerful blend of Garnacha Blanca, Malvasía and Viura from old vines on chalk and clay soils fermented in new French oak barrique without the addition of yeasts and matured in those barrels for eight months. This is a serious well-oaked white designed for the long run, which at this stage feels quite oaky but there is a sense of harmony and restrained power and slowly reveals strong minerality, both in the nose and the palate. As it sits in the glass it develops more complexity and harmony, notes of yellow flowers, fennel, chalk, spices, subtle smoke and beeswax emerge. The palate is both powerful and elegant, achieving one of those difficult combinations that show is some of the best wines. This is one of the best vintages for this showy white, which should age superbly in bottle. 6,000 bottles produced
